The Coorie – A Sanctuary of Warmth, Family & Independence

Client: A&C

“Coorie” is a cherished Scottish word that evokes the feeling of snuggling in, getting cosy, and finding comfort in simple pleasures. It’s about warmth, togetherness, and that deep-rooted sense of home. And it couldn’t be more fitting for this very special hut, built with love and intention.

The Coorie was created for a retired doctor, whose family wished for her to live closer while maintaining her independence and dignity. With their home just a little too small to accommodate an extra room, this bespoke shepherd hut became the perfect solution—a warm and welcoming haven nestled just steps away, where she could live safely, surrounded by love.

Designed with ease, elegance and comfort in mind, The Coorie features a corner window and end door layout to allow natural light to fill the space and create a beautiful connection to the outdoors. Inside, thoughtful touches make everyday living feel luxurious: plush velvet Roman blinds, a corner wood-burning stove for cosy evenings, and practical essentials like a composting toilet and full shower room.

A mini kitchen with a traditional plate rack, a built-in wardrobe with shelving, and a wee wall-mounted TV make the space feel both self-contained and homely. Every element was chosen with care, designed to make life easier and more enjoyable for its new inhabitant.

The Coorie is more than just a hut—it’s a heartfelt solution for modern families, a place where independence and closeness go hand-in-hand. Crafted in the Highlands with warmth, purpose, and soul, it stands as a beautiful reminder of what it means to truly coorie in.
